Today is the last day to order your Church of the Apostles 40th Anniversary t-shirt. Order forms are available at the Welcome Center. Cathy Kenlin will have one sample available to view after services.

Adult Sunday School
Today, we begin a series entitled White Privilege: Let’s Talk—A Resource for Transformational Dialogue, in the Parlor from 12:30-2:00 pm. The series will continue on Sundays through May 28. If you are still interested in attending, please speak to Pastor Kathy Kuhn…there is probably more than enough food for lunch. All are welcome to join us for a discussion about the privileges some of us experience.

Vacation Bible School Meeting
A VBS meeting will be held on Tuesday, May 2 at 7 pm in room 304. Join us as we plan for this year’s series Digging for Treasure (June 18-22) in Rader Park.

Missionary Support
Missionary support this month is for CEVER (The Center for Evangelical and Reformed Vocational Education) in Honduras. It is important for the young people there to be educated and trained for jobs. A one-month scholarship is $25, and $600 covers a whole year. This is quite a bargain. You can read more about their program in the April Crown.

Youth Center Clean-up!
We are gearing up to make some significant improvements to the Youth Center this summer, and our first task is to clean out and sort through things that have been left there over the years. The youth and other groups that use the space will be having two clean-up days: Saturday, May 6 and 13 from 9 am—2 pm. We would love to see you there!

Save the Date
Lifetouch Photography will be at Church of the Apostles on:

  • October 16 – October 20: 1-8 pm
  • October 21: 9 am – 4 pm

to take photos for a new mobile church directory. You will also be able to take individual/family portraits during this time. Photos are expected to be delivered before Christmas. More information will follow shortly.

You can buy cards for the following month and pick up the ones you ordered last month. Remember, the discount we earn from purchasing cards in bulk from Giant, Stauffers, and Weis provide food for the Saturday Breakfast downtown once a month. Helping others is easy, as well as a wonderful thing!

Garage Sale—Help Needed
Your help is needed this week (Monday, April 17—Thursday, April 20) for pricing, sorting, folding, and hanging up clothes. Lunch will be provided. Please come as you are able.

Race Against Racism
Once again, Church of the Apostles has a team for the 2017 Race Against Racism being held on Saturday, April 29th at 9 am. All are welcome to walk or run in this meaningful community event by registering at: www.ywcalancaster.org/raceagainstracism. “Never Again”
On Sunday, April 23, Church of the Apostles (along with the Lancaster Interfaith Coalition and others) will be hosting “Never Again”—a three-part journey to learn about and get involved with current issues related to immigration, including the effects of policy on persons of different religious traditions and ethnic origins. The schedule is as follows:

  • 3:00-3:30 pm at Temple Shaarai Shomayim: Introduction of Current Issues and Video on Working Together
  • 4:00-4:30 pm at the Islamic Community Center of Lancaster: Discussion & Letter Writing: Seeking Justice from Decision-makers and Encouraging Immigrant Families
  • 5:00-6:00 pm at Church of the Apostles UCC: Dinner & Fellowship Followed by a Vigil

Widowers Support Group

On Wednesday, April 19 at 3 pm, Rev. Kathryn Kuhn will facilitate a group discussion on the life changes that follow the loss of a spouse. Recognizing that your journeys are all different, we thought this may be an outlet for you to find support and to support others in their respective experiences. New Beginnings
Old Man Winter put a damper on February’s get together, but April’s meeting should flush out the winter blues. On April 13 at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, we will have a dessert social and speaker, Terry White, will join us. Mr. White will be discussing “Outhouses”—yes, outhouses. Bingo is going to team up with our end-of-the-year picnic and hymn sing in June.

Coming Soon
A series on white privilege is coming to COA. The series, entitled White Privilege: Let’s Talk—A Resource for Transformational Dialogue, is an adult curriculum from the United Church of Christ that’s designed to invite church members to engage in safe, meaningful, and bold conversations on race. Please think about joining us. More information will be announced shortly.

Race Against Racism

Lancaster Association Spring Meeting
The Lancaster Association of the UCC will be holding its spring 2017 meeting on Sunday, April 30 at 3 pm at Bethany UCC in Ephrata (140 E Main St, Ephrata, PA). You are invited to attend to receive updates on the Penn Central Conference, Committee reports, and to witness the installation of all newly elected leaders. There will also be a presentation by William “Bill” Harvey, Chief of the Ephrata Police Department entitled Crime Prevention and Safety Tips for Places of Worship.

Garage Sale

Church of the Apostles’ Garage Sale

  • Friday, April 21 from 8 am – 2 pm
  • Saturday, April 22 from 8 am – 1 pm

Please join us for our annual Garage Sale on April 21st and April 22nd. Not only will you find great deals on home décor, books, clothing, and more, but you will be shopping for a good cause. Funds collected will go toward church programs and outreach programs that benefit our community.

Would you like to donate items to be sold at our Garage Sale? Did you get a Christmas gift that either does not fit or you will never use? Remember, one man’s junk is another man’s treasure! Please save your items and bring them to Church of the Apostles from April 17-20 for our annual Garage Sale. We hope to see you there!

Lenten Service
On Wednesday, April 5 at 7 pm, our Lenten service will focus on the topic The Gift of Temptation and will include a video clip with Parker Palmer.

Apostles Academy of Arts and Sciences Recital
You are invited to attend the Academy recital today at 3:00 pm, featuring students and faculty members. Some of the featured instruments are: piano, strings, and brass. The recital will also include an art showcase by featured students of Steve Wilson’s Art Studio!  Please come out and support the arts.

Bunny Breakfast and Egg Hunt
Come out for breakfast and pictures with the Easter Bunny on April 8. Breakfast will be served from 8:30 am – 10:30 am. Adults $6, Children ages 2-10 $3. The Preschool will hold its Basket Auction at the same time. An egg hunt will follow at 10:30 am in the Church Courtyard.

Easter Cleanup
On Saturday, April 8th at 8 am, the Property Commission is having a cleanup session to freshen up the outside of the church for Easter. You can help for as long as you are able to. Bring your lawn rakes to gather up leaves and trash and hand cultivators to loosen up the mulch. We will begin work at the front of the church. Hope to see you there!

Duo Chiaroscuro: Silence Optional Concert
A Silence Optional Concert titled Song and Dance will be held at COA on Saturday, April 8 at 11 am in the Sanctuary. This program was especially designed for children who struggle to sit quietly for long periods of time, or have special needs. The program is less than an hour long and includes short breaks throughout.
