Special Offering: Neighbors in Need – October 1, 2017
Neighbors in Need (NIN) is one of the five UCC offerings collected each year. This offering supports ministries of justice and compassion throughout the United States. One-third of NIN funds support the Council for American Indian Ministry (CAIM). Two-thirds of the offering is used by the UCC’s Justice and Witness Ministries (JWM) to support a variety of justice initiatives, advocacy efforts, and direct service projects. The 2017 theme is “Protect the Sacred: In a Just World, Clean Water is life.” NIN grants are awarded to churches and organizations doing justice work in their communities. Funding for these grants is through donations to the NIN offering which will be received on October 1, 2017 by most UCC congregations as part of their World Communion Sunday observance. Thank you for giving generously.

It is a morning of celebration of who we are as a church and what we do for the community. During the Ministry Fair, all the Commissions will have displays of their ministries and showcase opportunities for members to get involved. On this day, we will have breakfast served for each of the services by the “regular crew” of volunteers who serve breakfast the first Saturdays of the month at First Reformed, UCC. We will have homemade scrambled eggs, pancakes, sausage, fruit, juice, and, of course, coffee! For the first service, breakfast will be served from 8:30 am—9:30 am and for the second service, it will be served from 10:15 am—10:45 am. All are free to eat during the service.

Harvest Home: Sunday, September 10
Each year, we celebrate God’s autumn bounty by giving a portion of it to those who are less fortunate. We ask each member of our church family to bring non-perishable food to church on Harvest Home Sunday. Monetary gifts may go into your special envelope for Harvest Home/Food Bank and placed in the collection plate. These donations will be taken to Lancaster County Council of Churches, Hempfield Area Food Pantry, and our own Food Bank at Church of the Apostles, which supports Apostles Assistance.
