Concert
St. Anthony of Padua Church (501 East Orange Street, Lancaster, PA 17602) has extended an invitation to all music lovers to join them today at 4:00 pm for a rededication and celebration of their refurbished pipe organ. Texas-based performers Stephen Distad, organ, and Justin Langham, trumpet, will present a concert of works by Bach, Gigout, Holst, Langham, Saint Saens, and Telemann. There will be a cold buffet supper in the parish hall following the concert. A free-will donation will be accepted. Free parking is available.

Seeds of Hope Garden—Help Needed
The Seeds of Hope Garden shed will be open this summer (June, July, and August) on Tuesdays and Fridays from 9:30 am—12:30 pm. Volunteers are needed to be at the shed each day we are open. Please sign the calendar sheets at the church when you are able to be at the shed and help us have a great season at the garden!

Vacation Bible School (VBS)
Church of the Apostles and Salem U.C.C. invite you to join us for Vacation Bible School 2016. All kids between the ages of four (4) years through 5^th grade are invited to come learn wonderful Bible stories, play games, make crafts, and learn about the importance of caring for God’s creation.

Stewardship: Electronic Donations
Every now and then it’s good to remind people of some of the programs in place here at Church of the Apostles. The Stewardship Commission has made it possible for you to sign up for Electronic Funds Transfers from your checking account directly into the church’s checking account. It’s one more detail you can get off your mental check list.  Ask the office for the application form. You determine how much and how often you want to give to the church, and the two banks take care of the details. Your donation arrives on time, every time. This helps the church budget, it smooths out the peaks and valleys of giving, and it relieves you of another detail to remember to do. Try it out soon. We think you’ll like it.

Have you noticed that they have stopped participating in their favorite activities like reading and sewing, or going out to restaurants?

If you have noticed some of these things with a friend or relative, or perhaps yourself, then you should join Parish Life in the Parlor on May 20^th (from 2-3 pm) to learn how a local agency, VisionCorps, may be able to help. Light refreshments will be provided.

VisionCorps provides rehabilitative and educational services to individuals of all ages who are vision impaired living in Lancaster, Lebanon, and Chester Counties. Services include Social Services, Occupational Therapy, and Orientation and Mobility. VisionCorps can also connect individuals to additional resources, such as a Low Vision Specialist.

Ecuador Earthquake Relief and Recovery
The United Church of Christ One Great Hour of Sharing and The Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) Week of Compassion have issued a joint special appeal for $500,000 for Ecuador earthquake relief and recovery.

Your generosity to this special appeal will enable a far-reaching response. Because the scope of the damage is so immense, the disaster ministries of the United Church of Christ and the Christian Church (Disciples of Christ) are leveraging our existing partnership to respond jointly.

Assad has been described by the LA Times as “a dazzling vocal soloist and all-round musician.” TRP (The Reese Project), a modern-day ensemble with an eclectic repertoire of original Jazz, Funk, Rock, Blues, Classical, and World music, will be performing with Assad. Admission to the concert is a free-will offering.

Throughout the month of May, we are holding a pajama party in the Wishing Well. We are once again collecting pajamas to support Conner’s Comfy PJs. Each year during this month, they collect pajamas for girls and boys in local pediatric cancer treatment centers. This year, they are requesting pajamas for children ages four to 16, as they often get many donations for younger children. Please consider participating in this memorial ministry to help so many pediatric cancer patients. We will collect these pajamas until May 29^th. Earthquake Relief: Ecuador and Japan
Our One Great Hour of Sharing offering last month (or any time) is already at work in Ecuador and Japan. The UCC and Disciples of Christ work together with ecumenical partners on site, the Ecumenical Foundation (FEDICE) in Ecuador and the Kyodan (United Church of Christ in Japan).  Additional funds would help greatly. Donations by check should be marked either “Earthquake Relief” or “OGHS.”

Wishing Well
During the month of May, COA will be holding a pajama party in the Well! We will be collecting children’s pajamas to support Conner’s Comfy PJs, a foundation begun by the Holland family in Lititz who lost their son, Conner, to cancer at the age of five. They collect comfy pajamas for children in oncology wards undergoing treatments for cancer. As always, thank you for your generous and consistent giving to support our many outreach ministries. Buy Stock! Invest in the Youth!
This will be the last week for you to purchase a certificate of stock to support the youth who are attending the National Youth Event. Each of these certificates cost $20 at minimum. The certificate entitles the holder to a seat at our stockholder’s dinner on Sunday, August 28, where the youth will serve and give a presentation on their trip. Look for a youth member in the front lobby/Narthex with a large white envelope to invest today!

Youth Car Wash Fundraiser
Who doesn’t enjoy a shiny, clean car? The youth will be hosting a car wash fundraiser on Saturday, April 2 from 8 am-1 pm in the church’s front parking lot. Donations will be accepted to help fund the youth’s trip to the National Youth Event.

Do you want television, movies, advertising, and misinformed peers to teach your children about sexuality? Unless YOU start this conversation early, these less-than-healthy and misleading sources of information will be their go-to reference!

Come learn proven tips and strategies for how to have real, honest conversations with your children (and grandchildren) about sexuality and making healthy choices. This valuable workshop will be held Sunday April 3 (that’s one week from today!) from 6:30-8 pm in Rooms 308-310, The workshop is FREE and includes FREE childcare in the Fellowship Hall. Davis Flute Studio will present its first ever chamber recital on Sunday, April 3rd at 1:00 pm in the Church of the Apostles Sanctuary. Students will be featured in quartets, and a studio flute choir will end the recital. The performance is open to the public.

Preschool Anniversary
On Sunday April 24^th, the Apostles Community Preschool will be celebrating its 50^th year anniversary with a reunion luncheon. The luncheon will be held in the Fellowship Hall after the 10:45 am worship service.

Former and current preschoolers, teachers and board members are invited to attend this special event as well as church members.

We would like to develop a Memory Book. If you have a favorite memory, please jot it down and either give it to Ellen Schellenberger or email Ellen at ejschellenberger@comcast.net by Friday, April 15. If you know any former students, teachers, or board members who are not members of COA, please share this information with them and ask them to contact the preschool office at (717) 392-5598.

Heritage and Horizons
Heritage & Horizons will begin its 29^th year of presenting educational programs at Church of the Apostles this Tuesday, March 29^th and each Tuesday in April. All sessions meet in the church sanctuary. Registration brochures are available at the Welcome Center. See Cathie Oliphant for more information.
