Contemporary Jazz Worship Event

On Sunday, November 11, New York pianist, composer, and vocalist, Deanna Witkowski, will bring special music to our 9:15 am and 10:45 am worship services. Witkowski is best known for her jazz arrangements of classic hymns, her sense of swing, and vast harmonic resources.

Witkowski has released six critically hailed albums since 2000 that feature rich fusions of jazz, Brazilian, and Afro-Cuban music. Her work also includes 80 sacred music originals and arrangements, including two jazz masses.

Witkowski has won several competitions throughout her career, including the 2002 Great American Jazz Piano Competition, the ChoralArt New England Carol Contest, and the Illinois-ACDA Choral Composition Contest. In 2015, she was one of five composers selected for the New Dramatists Composer-Librettist Studio, where she composed five music theater pieces in the space of two weeks in collaboration with five playwrights. She is also the recipient of a 2018 New York State Council on the Arts Individual Artist Grant.

In the spring of 2018, Witkowski spent eight weeks in Bahia, Brazil doing research for her new project, the “Nossa Sehhora” Suite. The suite will merge Afro-Brazilian expressions of the Virgin Mary with new jazz composition for Witkowski’s jazz quartet, percussion, and four vocalists.

Witkowski holds an M.A. in jazz piano performance from the City College of New York and a B.M. in classical piano performance from Wheaton College of Illinois.

Christmas in the Country Bazaar

Bring the family for food, fun, and beautifully-made crafts of all kinds!

Lancaster’s much-anticipated 41st annual Christmas in the Country Bazaar and Craft Show will be held on Saturday, November 10 at Church of the Apostles UCC (1850 Marietta Avenue) from 9 am to 3 pm. The Bazaar draws over 1,000 visitors each year and boasts over 60 juried crafters who are carefully selected for the show yearly.

This year’s Bazaar will include many long-time and new vendors who will feature crafts such as: handmade wreaths, baskets, pillows, stained glass decorations, jewelry, paintings and artwork, doll clothes, holiday and seasonal ornaments, hand-carved wood novelties, and more! In addition to the crafters, the Bazaar will include the Apostles Crafters Room, which will have handmade craft items created throughout the year by church members. There will also be a Corner Cupboard with jams, jellies, candies, and other beautifully-presented homemade treats.

Food will be available in the Fellowship Hall throughout the event. The menu will include soups, hot dogs, barbecue foods, beverages, and a large variety of pies! Soups for sale will be vegetable, vegetarian chili, and chicken corn soup.

A wonderful variety of pies and apple dumplings will once again be made by the Bischoff family and members of the Apostles Choir. You can pre-order our pies online at www.apostlesucc.org to ensure you get your favorite. Other homemade cakes, cookies, and candies will also be available.

Throughout the day, special music will be presented in the Sanctuary by some of Church of the Apostles’ talented musicians and choir members. Visitors are invited to relax and enjoy the music during shopping breaks.

Proceeds from the food tables, Apostles Crafters, and rental fees will support missions, outreach projects, and special needs within the life of the church and the community.

There is no charge for this event and there will be ample parking available at the church. For more information, please contact Church of the Apostles at (717) 392-5718.

Pre-order Form for Bazaar Pies

Pies, Pies, Pies
Pre-order Form for Bazaar

Every year, the Bischoff family, volunteer friends, and choir members bake pies to sell at the choir table at the Bazaar.  We have found that this pre-order form helps us determine more accurately the kinds of pies and amounts that we need to bake.

Please fill out the form on the back of this sheet to pre-order your pies.  Please give the form to any choir member or drop it off in the church office by Thursday, November 1.  Do not include payment.   We will hold your pies for pick up at the choir bake table until 1:00 pm on Saturday, November 10, unless you request special arrangements.

Please click here to download the order form. Completed forms can be emailed to webmaster@apostlesucc.org.
