Week of April 9, 2017
Food Bank
Needs: Specifically—cold cereal, rice or rice helpers, pasta, crackers, dry soup, and canned items, including soups, fruits, beans, baked beans, tomatoes, and tuna.
Market Basket
During the first three Sundays of each month, you have the opportunity to buy grocery cards in the office after service. You can buy cards for the following month and pick up the ones you ordered last month. Remember, the discount we earn from purchasing cards in bulk from Giant, Stauffers, and Weis provide food for the Saturday Breakfast downtown once a month. Helping others is easy, as well as a wonderful thing!
New Beginnings
Old Man Winter put a damper on February’s get together, but April’s meeting should flush out the winter blues. On April 13 at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall, we will have a dessert social and speaker, Terry White, will join us. Mr. White will be discussing “Outhouses”—yes, outhouses. Bingo is going to team up with our end-of-the-year picnic and hymn sing in June.
Upcoming Services
- Maundy Thursday—Thursday, April 13 at 7 pm
- Good Friday—Friday, April 14 at 7 pm
- Easter Sunday—Sunday, April 16:
– Sunrise Service at 7 am in Rader Park
– 9:15 and 10:45 am services in the Sanctuary

Coming Soon
A series on white privilege is coming to COA. The series, entitled White Privilege: Let’s Talk—A Resource for Transformational Dialogue, is an adult curriculum from the United Church of Christ that’s designed to invite church members to engage in safe, meaningful, and bold conversations on race. Please think about joining us. More information will be announced shortly.
Race Against Racism
Once again, Church of the Apostles has a team for the 2017 Race Against Racism being held on Saturday, April 29th at 9 am. All are welcome to walk or run in this meaningful community event by registering at: www.ywcalancaster.org/raceagainstracism. Please choose the Church of the Apostles Team. Participants will carpool to the start and enjoy breakfast together afterward! If you have any questions, please contact Kristi Newport at kbnewport@gmail.com or (717) 371-8406.
Lancaster Association Spring Meeting
The Lancaster Association of the UCC will be holding its spring 2017 meeting on Sunday, April 30 at 3 pm at Bethany UCC in Ephrata (140 E Main St, Ephrata, PA). You are invited to attend to receive updates on the Penn Central Conference, Committee reports, and to witness the installation of all newly elected leaders. There will also be a presentation by William “Bill” Harvey, Chief of the Ephrata Police Department entitled Crime Prevention and Safety Tips for Places of Worship.
Missionary Support
Missionary support this month is for CEVER (The Center for Evangelical and Reformed Vocational Education) in Honduras. It is important for the young people there to be educated and trained for jobs. A one-month scholarship is $25, and $600 covers a whole year. This is quite a bargain. You can read more about their program in the April Crown.
