Week of November 5, 2017
Food Bank
Needs: Specifically—cold cereal, rice or rice helpers, pasta, crackers, dry soup, and canned items, including soups, fruits, beans, baked beans, tomatoes, and tuna.
Market Basket
If you do extra baking or feed more people in December, or if you want to use grocery cards as gifts, then you need to start thinking about it now. You may buy Stauffer’s cards of $50, Giant cards of $20 and $50, Weis cards of $25, $50 and $100. Remember that the discount the stores give us allows you to give an extra gift to other people through the Outreach Commission.
Nursery Changes
The Education Commission is in the middle of reorganizing the Nursery. We are currently searching for a paid staff member, but, in the meantime, we are looking for extra volunteers who already have their clearances on file with the church. For the 9:15 service, we will need to have two volunteers for the Nursery for ages 0-3. For the 10:45 service we will have the Nursery open as a crying room only without volunteers.
Help Needed Baking Pies
The choir is seeking volunteers to help make pies for the Bazaar on November 10 between 7 am-9 pm for preparation, baking, packing, and cleaning up, etc. If you could donate one to two hours of your time that day, it would be greatly appreciated.
Bazaar Help Needed
Helpers are needed to move furniture to make room for our vendors and then replace all furniture after the Bazaar. Please contact Eric McLaren at (717) 371-3359.
“Who Is My Neighbor?” Series
Today at 10:45 am, speaker Jack Fischel, PhD will discuss the Holocaust and Jewish history in Lancaster. Next week, speaker Steven Nolt, PhD will join us to discuss The History of Anabaptists in Lancaster.
Volunteers Needed to Make Bazaar Soup
Volunteers are needed to make soup for our church Bazaar on November 6-8 from 9 am-3 pm and on November 9 from 9 am-12 pm. We are also looking for volunteers to wash dishes, etc. and to serve and sell soup in Fellowship Hall in two-hour shifts during the Bazaar. Please contact Cindy Williams at (717) 572-3808.
Women’s Retreat
The Hartman Center will be hosting a women’s retreat from 7 pm Friday, November 17 to Sunday, November 19 after worship at Michaux Lodge. The theme, How Then, Shall We Live?, will explore questions that reveal the beauty and meaning in the lives of women. The cost is $115 per person and includes a study book. If interested, please contact Rev. Heather Giffen at (717) 392-5718 by November 6.
Black Rock Women’s Retreat
The 2018 Black Rock Women’s Retreat (in Quarryville, PA) will be held on February 16-17, 2018. Speaker Marie Monville will be sharing her testimony about how her life changed when on October 2, 2006, her then husband made a decision to hold an Amish school house hostage. The cost is $99 per person. If you are interested in attending, please contact Donna Carr at (717) 475-5285 by November 15.
Wishing Well
Pastor Giffen and Pastor Kuhn get many requests for needed personal care and home care items. Please see the posters above the Wishing Well and on the Outreach bulletin board for listed items on sticky notes. Please consider purchasing a listed item, and putting it in the Wishing Well through the first part of November.
Becoming Apostles
If you have been worshipping with us and are ready to explore membership, please speak with Rev. Kuhn or Rev. Giffen. We are putting together a group to meet and get to know each other in November and become members in early December.
Towels Needed for Preschool
The Preschool is in need of used towels (any size). You may drop them off outside the Preschool office, Room 206.
Calling All Bakers
The choir bakes our wonderful pies and apple dumplings for the Bazaar, but ALL you folks bake the other delicious things for the bake table. Cookies, cakes, breads, and all other great baked goods are very much appreciated by the choirs, and we ask for your support again this year. Please package cookies in plastic bags by the half dozen and supply the names of the items please. We would also appreciate sheet cakes that are sold by the piece for dessert. Bring them to the Fellowship Hall after 4 pm on Friday, November 10.
