Week of September 17, 2017
Food Bank
Needs: Specifically—cold cereal, rice or rice helpers, pasta, crackers, dry soup, and canned items, including soups, fruits, beans, baked beans, tomatoes, and tuna.
Market Basket
Today is the last day this month to order grocery cards. You can buy cards for the following month and pick up the ones you ordered last month. Remember, the discount we earn from purchasing cards in bulk from Giant, Stauffers, and Weis provide food for the Saturday Breakfast downtown once a month. Helping others is easy, as well as a wonderful thing!
Garden
Have leaves? We would love to use them as mulch for the garden! If so, please put them in a bag and leave them by the black fence in the front parking lot.
Church Directory Photo Shoot
If you would like to be included in our church directory, you will need to make an appointment to have a new photo taken (exceptions will be made for those in healthcare facilities). No additional purchase will be required, and you will receive a free 8×10 as a gift. You can sign up for your preferred time slot through October 8 in one of the following ways:
- Online: Visit our website at www.apostlesucc.org, click on the Lifetouch announcement on the homepage, and follow instructions.
- At COA: You can sign up with the help of a volunteer after services at the Lifetouch table today, 9/24, 10/1, and 10/8.
- Phone: Call (866) 756-0281 to receive personal help from a Lifetouch professional to schedule your appointment.
Note: Everyone who signs up by October 1 will be entered to win a Lifetouch gift certificate that can be applied to your photograph order. A drawing for both a $25 and a $50 gift certificate will be held daily between October 2 and October 7. Winners will be notified by Donna Carr and certificates can be picked up on the day of your photo shoot.
Please contact Donna Carr at (717) 475-5285, or the church office at (717) 392-5718 if you have any questions.
Heritage and Horizons
Mark your calendars for the new series of Heritage & Horizons lectures on Tuesdays, October 3—31. It is our 30th year of providing adult learning opportunities, and we have a variety of interesting speakers coming to make presentations on topics such as: Early Lancaster County, Great Ladies of the Cinema: Vivien Leigh, The Pennsylvania German Immigrant Experience, and more. Sessions will be held in the Sanctuary of Church of the Apostles at 9:30 am—10:30 am and 10:50 am—11:50 am with a 20-minute refreshment break. The registration fee is $15 for each person for the entire five-week program. Brochures are available at the Welcome Center.
New Beginnings
Please join us on Thursday, October 12th at 1:00 pm in the Fellowship Hall for a dessert social and program. Cathie Oliphant will present a film titled “Annie Wittenmyer: Civil War Heroine” and talk about the impact she had during the 19th century. We will learn of her many accomplishments, including women’s aid, her association with soldiers and General Grant during the Civil War, the founding of the first public and Sunday schools in Iowa, and many more.
